Cooking up a Mystery
Picture

Laney Eskridge worked to put her husband through dental school. Then he left with another woman. She's on edge from the emotional scars and her parents' deaths. Then she hears unexplained noises in her new tea house, and her anxiety is tripled. Add a budding romance with Eric—a guy with a fear of commitment—and it's all too much to handle. She cuts ties with Eric and plunges into making her business pay off.

When Eric discovers that Laney's in danger, he vows to protect her. But can he make a lasting promise? Will she trust him? ...and when they overhear a threat that could cause national turmoil, will anyone believe them? There's more brewing than herbal tea in Cooking up a Mystery.

What people are saying

Gail Pallotta has cooked up a delectable mystery with all the right ingredients:  rich characters, page-turning suspense, and heart-warming romance. One warning. Don't read this when you're hungry! With all the great food references, you could gain five pounds! Nancy Mehl, ACFW Carol Award Winner and Best-Selling Author of the Defenders of Justice and Kaely Quinn Profiler Series. nancymehl.com

What more do we need? Laney's restaurant is described so well I wanted to drop in for some of her delicious cooking. But I'd want to leave before night when the banging pots and pans stirred up fear and a mystery. Cooking up a Mystery is a delightful story. I was unable to figure out how anyone could come and go without using the door, or how so much noise was made with nothing disturbed by the time Laney got enough nerve to check out her kitchen. Although a suspense, the story is not frightening, and I appreciated that. The romance between Laney and Eric was just right, as was the way the mystery played out. Good Writing! From Connie C. on Amazon

From the delicious first paragraph until the sweet final scene, Cooking up a Mystery by Gail Pallotta is a treat on every level. The author creates fantastic scenes, her characters are realistic and well-developed, her prose sparkles like polished silverware and her plotting is imaginative and impeccable. The author has written a book with all of the ingredients that will completely satisfy her readers. A bonus section of reader's recipes at the end (each one named after a character in the book!) is the perfect finishing touch to make this delectable mystery an irresistible indulgence. I can't wait for the next book from this talented author. From a Five-Star Review on Amazon

                      What People Are Saying
Readers say Breaking Barriers is fast-paced, filled with action and suspense, and it could come straight from the newspapers and local news today.

"Gail Pallotta knows how to write breath-gasping scenes. This is a short novella, but it is packed with great dialog, authentic three-dimensional characters, and page-turning action. Then there is a sweet romance tucked inside as well. This could happen anywhere, anytime in today's world. A book everyone should read. It will firm up your faith..." Julie C.

"...The vivid descriptions and character development were superb. She has a knack for painting words that describe the characters, settings, happenings and conveying the faith of those involved. The story line brings us to realize that enemies of believers in God are out there and could take the form of occurrences in this story. It is a scary thought and the story Gail has developed shows us clearly that those with faith can stand against opposition, whatever form it takes. I enjoyed the character of Ann, James and Freddie. We're taught that first impressions of someone can be wrong and Ann learned that and made things right. Love, faith and friendship conquers all, a wonderful message for us. I didn't want to stop reading as the end of each chapter left me hanging on a cliff as good writers do..." Author Larry Hammersley

" The action in this story moved quickly, and the characters were enjoyable. I think my favorite thing about this book was the descriptive phrases. In one place, the author described a boat tour of the Florida Everglades. I love a book that lets me see what the characters saw. After reading this story, I feel like I’ve been on a trip to Florida! I will be looking for more books by this author!" Rocky Mountain Reader Reviews

What People Are Saying
"The main theme in Gail Pallotta’s Barely Above Water is “overcoming incredible odds.” Readers will find themselves rooting for characters who face illness, unemployment and heartbreak. I think you’ll thoroughly enjoy this story about trust and faith!" Loree Lough — bestselling author of more than 100 award-winning books, including RT 4.5 star Top Pick, Saving Alyssa {Harlequin Heartwarming}.)

"
Suzie Morris leaves behind a great job and the man she loved in North Carolina to become a kids’ swim coach in Florida. There is a doctor there who may finally be able to cure her of the mysterious disease that has ravaged her body. But in Gail Pallotta’s touching contemporary romance novel, Barely Above Water, Suzie’s search for physical healing leads her to discover something she didn’t expect. The kind of love that can also heal her wounded soul." Nancy Mehl – award winning author of the Finding Sanctuary and Kaely Quinn Profiler series.

"Hope is a definite theme in this story. But more than just a cross-your-fingers type of hope but a "you can rely on God" kind of hope. Illness can cloud the hope from our lives as we suffer through. This is what the main character from Barely Above Water experiences. Pallotta's characters come to life through their distinctive development. The author weaves together a fight to maintain hope during a strange illness with a second chance at finding love and care. Don't miss this well-crafted and unique story." Author Paula Michelle Mowery

"This well-crafted novel is layered with several interesting facets. The story of the local swim team, Susie and Matt’s evolving love story, and the deviation of Lyme disease.
Not only is it an interesting concept, there is a great deal of information in this novel of which the general audience is not aware. Susie’s health issues have taken over every aspect of her life, and she’s willing to give up a lucrative career to find a cure.
The alternative route she takes requires faith, enduring emotional pain, and seemingly giving up on everything to find an answer. Well done. Author Victoria Pitts Caine
